In what I believe is only her second public appearance since undergoing cardiac surgery in late March, Starlet Marie Jones, 48, appeared on the red carpet at the Apollo Theater Spring Benefit Concert on Monday... looking as fit as a griddle. Wearing a sporty new two-toned hairdo, Miss Jones ambulated without assistance in a pleated pink mini.

Ru Pall

Former "High Rollers" hostess Ruta Lee, most of whom turned 74 this past weekend, as seen at the Society of Singers (SOS) annual gala at the Beverly Hilton last night.

Ruta began her Hollywood career as a cashier at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

She and her restaurant exec husband live in the Hollywood Hills home once inhabited by Rita Hayworth and Orson Welles.

For fifty years, Ruta and Debbie Reynolds have staged the annual Thalians Ball, providing help for troubled youth and mental health organizations.

Ruta received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 2006.



If you live in the Fort Worth, Texas area, perhaps you caught her in 2008 as Clairee in a production of Steel Magnolias with Sally Struthers at the Casa Mañana Theatre.

Gowns by Adrian

Joan Crawford as "Letty Lynton" in 1932 in a gown designed by Adrian (Adrian Greenburg), who was married to Janet Gaynor, with whom he had a son. The film became mired in a copyright dispute.

The "ruby slippers" on the feet of Judy Garland, Adrian designed the costumes for "The Wizard of Oz," and over 200 other films.

Adrian died of a heart attack at age 56 in 1959, while designing costumes for "Camelot" on Broadway, for which he won a posthumous Tony.

Her Majesty, Betty Deuce, turned down the glamor to attend the Windsor Horse Show on Thursday. Gone are the fabulous hat, the contact lenses and sparkling brooch. All that remains of her regal status are her sexy stockings and sensible shoes.

Betty Deuce: Blue and a Brooch

Betty Deuce wore her eye color blue for a visit to Norwich Cathedral. She also wore her fourth favorite brooch, the Jardine Star, a gift to Her Majesty from Lady Jardine.

Yes, there are people who keep track of which royal jewels are worn -- and when and how often. Betty wore this brooch 83 times between 1990 and 2008. It appears to be at least 30 or 40 carats, total.

Goodbye, Dorothy Height

President Obama delivered a beautiful eulogy for civil rights matriarch Dorothy Height today. Dorothy passed away last week at age 98.


An excerpt from the eulogy:

"It's an unambiguous record of righteous work, worthy of remembrance, worthy of recognition. And yet, one of the ironies is, is that year after year, decade in, decade out, Dr. Height went about her work quietly, without fanfare, without self-promotion. She never cared about who got the credit. She didn't need to see her picture in the papers. She understood that the movement gathered strength from the bottom up, those unheralded men and women who don't always make it into the history books but who steadily insisted on their dignity, on their manhood and womanhood. She wasn't interested in credit. What she cared about was the cause. The cause of justice. The cause of equality. The cause of opportunity. Freedom's cause.

And that willingness to subsume herself, that humility and that grace, is why we honor Dr. Dorothy Height. As it is written in the Gospel of Matthew:

'For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.'

I don't think the author of the Gospel would mind me rephrasing: 'whoever humbles herself will be exalted.'"
